Dive into the Enchanting World of Elise Prudhomme’s New Solo Exhibition: Coast-in-Tint | Portrait of a Landscape

Coast-in-tint | Portrait of a Landscape Château des Ravalet3 – 28 April 2024 GALLERY HOURS : Wednesday – Sunday from 2 – 6:30 pm, or by appointment In Tourlaville, a unique exhibition offers a new look at the landscapes of North Cotentin. The exhibition “Coast-in-tint | Portrait of a Landscape” at the Château des Ravalet, brings together the photographic works of Élise Prudhomme. It presents around fifty prints from artisanal methods to illustrate the multiple facets of the landscapes of North Cotentin. Metals noble tones (gold, silver, palladium) give varied tones to the images – sepia, Prussian blue, deep warm black – which alternate with color impressions in order to highlight a “new picturesque”. How to photograph the quest for exoticism and renewal that characterizes this stretch of coastline? The results of the technical prowess of a few passionate scholars in the adaptation of numerous plant species from diverse biotopes, such as that of the Canary Islands, have spread to gardens and coastal areas where they consume the landscape with appetite. They offer a new aesthetic in these places preserved from urbanization and rub shoulders with artifacts from the Second World War and Neolithic remains. However, there is a resilience … Read More

Phoenix canariensis, Jardin d'acclimatation, Ile de Tatihou, France. This cyanotype print is part of the series Ferric, a large format analog photography study printed with iron-based alternative photography processes.

Ferric [Ferrique] | Elise Prudhomme Studio Galerie B&B9 – 28 November 2021 GALLERY HOURS : Tuesday – Sunday from 2 – 7 pm, or by appointment Ferric [Ferrique] | Elise Prudhomme I have been exploring the landscapes of the North Cotentin using large format film cameras and pinhole, bearing witness to a new picturesque, fruit of the clement Gulf Stream and of human intervention in his quest for the exotic and renewal. The results of the technical prowess of a few passionate scholars in the adaptation of numerous plant species from diverse biotopes, such as that of the Canary Islands, have swarmed in gardens and coastal areas where they consume the landscape with gusto. They offer a new aesthetic in these places preserved from urbanization, rubbing shoulders with artifacts from the Second World War and older remains that testify to the transmutation of this now rural and livestock-oriented landscape since the Neolithic era. However there is a resilience of nature which allows an attractive continuity of the landscape. The monolithic coastline of granite is an impassable border where man cannot make his mark. Both a vector of transformation and a protected target, the Cotentin coastline is still desirable. I bring … Read More

5 – 17 November 2019 OPENING Tuesday 5 November at 6 pm GALLERY HOURS : Tuesday – Friday from 3 – 7 pm, Saturday & Sunday from 2 – 7 pm Lieux-dits [Said Places] | Elise Prudhomme Photographic author, Elise Prudhomme, uses her many cameras to explore the possibilities and limits of the medium. Her subject matter varies from Landscape, Portraits or Interior Spaces but throughout there is a humor, irony and an appreciation of the surreal. Her latest exhibition is Lieux-dits. This is a French toponymic term that literally translates as “Said Places”. It refers to small geographical locations that bear traditional names often based on some characteristic of the place, its former use, or a past event. These photographs represent events as well as places, as in a memoir. One single shot was not enough to express the feeling engendered by the locale. Through a creative use of multiple perspectives and points of view to generate diverse reference points, the emotions associated with these toponyms are anchored in memory. Exhibition announcement for the new analog photography series by Elise Prudhomme entitled Lieux-dits. Works from the series exhibited at Studio Galerie B&B.

Lieux-dits | New series exhibited at Studio Galerie B&B Photographic author, I use a variety of analog and digital cameras to explore the possibilities and limits of the medium. While my choice of subject matter varies from Landscape, Portraits or Interior Spaces throughout there is a humor, irony and an appreciation of the surreal. My latest series is titled “Lieux-dits”. Through a creative use of multiple exposures to generate diverse reference points, the emotions associated with the “Lieux-dits” are anchored in memory. Taken during travels, when my sensitivity to my surrounds was most acute, they relate tales of encounters, lights and foreign languages during an adventurous time in my life. Here are a few images of the exhibition and opening. Studio Galerie B&B6 bis rue des Récollets – 75010 Parisinfo@studiogaleriebb.com

Exposed [À découvert] | Exhibition during Mois de la Photo OFF at Studio Galerie B&B

Exhibition Poster for Exposed (A découvert) at Studio Galerie B&B from 28 March to 23 April 2017

Exposed [À découvert] exhibited during Mois de la Photo OFF from 28 March – 23 April 2017 In the midst of a garden, of the forest, perched on a tree branch or lodged in the shade of foliage, the naked body, divinely animal, inscribes itself in the order of nature.  But is there a place for it in the order of the real? The artist does not seem quite freed from this nostalgia of fusion with the maternal realm. For a moment, hidden at the top of a tree-refuge, she becomes a bird. The photographer’s eye forges unceasing images of a paradise where recovering the voluptuousness of flight proper to creation is the greatest desire. – translated from the text by Patricia Bourcillier Exposed is the first part of a body of work that I began in the 80s on the exploration of self and the photographic medium. It is followed, in the 90s, by a more intimate series called Self-consciousness. Au milieu d’un jardin, de la forêt, perché sur la branche d’un arbre ou lové à l’ombre du feuillage, le corps nu, divinement animal, s’inscrit dans l’ordre de la nature. Yours, Mine, Le Nôtre’s: An American Photographer Examines the Garden of Versailles As France celebrates the 400th anniversary of the birth of André Le Nôtre, the father of French gardens, France Revisited explores some of this 17th-century landscape gardener’s most famous gardens and parks. Here, in text and images, American photographer Elise Prudhomme, a longtime Paris resident whose work has been exhibited in the Tuileries Garden and will soon appear in an exhibition in Versailles, guides us along the garden paths of Versailles.by Gary Lee Kraut* * * Photographs and text by Elise Prudhomme André Le Nôtre designed the Garden of Versailles to display, reflect and serve as the backdrop for the pomp and glory and power of the reign of Louis XIV. As such the garden functioned as a direct extension of the palace itself. Piqued by Nicolas Fouquet’s audacious success with the Château of Vaux-le-Vicomte which he visited in 1661, Louis XIV enlisted the three men who had contributed to that success—the architect Louis Le Vau, the painter-decorator Charles Le Brun and the landscape gardener André Le Nôtre—to create the palace of all palaces: Versailles. read full article…

Liberté or Liberty, Tuileries Garden, Paris, France, 2011 (part of the series Yours, Mine, Le Nôtre's) by Elise Prudhomme.

Celebrating Le Nôtre: An American Photographer Explores the Tuileries Garden France Revisited joins France’s celebration of the 400th anniversary of the birth of André Le Nôtre, the father of French gardens, with seven stunning photos of Paris’s most historical garden, the Tuileries Garden, by American photographer Elise Prudhomme. Yours, Mine, Le Nôtre’s Photographs and text by Elise Prudhomme A walk through the Tuileries Garden is a return to the origin of French gardens. Considering its long heritage of transformations by queens, kings, landscape architects and gardeners, the Tuileries cannot be fully attributed to André Le Nôtre (1613-1700). It can nevertheless be viewed as the matrix of André Le Nôtre’s career. By matrix I mean that the Tuileries was his testing grounds and the precursor of his future projects, the womb or mold from which his future work originated and developed.  Without the Tuileries there would be no Versailles. read full article…

Yours, Mine, Le Nôtre’s, exhibition texts about this photography series

Green, Tuileries Garden, Paris, France, 2011 (part of the series Yours, Mine, Le Nôtre's) by Elise Prudhomme.

Yours, Mine, Le Nôtre’s, exhibition texts about this photography series On the occasion of the four hundredth anniversary of the birth of André Le Nôtre (1613 – 1700), I have taken another look at his master work. Working with mineral and plant architecture, Le Nôtre created multifaceted gardens that are both majestic and playful. He surprises us with follies and fountains set in contrast to strictly symmetrical wooded masses; he plays on light and shadow in his whimsical and symmetrical groves, dotting parterres and main walkways with statues and yew cut in the most amazing ways. The Tuileries Garden, with its crowds of pressed tourists drawn by the dramatic perspective from the Louvre up the Champs-Elysées, leaves strollers the opportunity to discover smaller gardens within the garden. Sceaux Park, where André Le Nôtre played with the landscape using a double perspective : the first extending from the axis of the château, the second set on a perpendicular axis from the château, revealing a large waterfall extending through to the Basin of the Octagon. Versailles, the result of matured reflection in garden architecture, is a masterpiece in the art of topiary. Vaux-le-Vicomte Garden and Saint-Cloud Park are also included. Photographing these … Read More
