The Man Sagar Lake was once a natural depression for the accumulation of water which was subsequently made into a dam in 1596 AD by the ruler Amer to prevent his people from dying of famine. The lake serves for irrigation of agricultural land and a palace sits in the middle which underwent a spectacular restoration in the 18th century by Jai Singh II of Amer.
