Tourist overlooking picturesque Port Racine, Saint-Germain-des-Vaux, Lower Normandy, France

Port Racine bears the name of one of the last pirates who raged under Napoleon, Captain François-Médard Racine. At the beginning of 1813, he chose this place as a strategic refuge. He built a jetty to protect himself from bad weather and avoid being spotted by enemy ships. From there, he could quickly launch his schooner “Ambush” on ships doubling Cape Hague, Cap Cotentin or trafficking with the Channel Islands. Port Racine porte le nom de François-Médard Racine, un des derniers corsaires sous Napoléon. En 1813, Racine choisit cet endroit comme refuge stratégique. Il y construisit une jetée pour se protéger du mauvais temps et éviter de se faire repérer par les navires ennemis. Ensuite il lançait son navire l« Embuscade » sur les navires doublant le Cap de la Hague, Cap Cotentin ou faisant du trafic avec les îles Anglo-Normandes.
